well boo to you guys i have to pay 15 a week to keep my horse on haylage at the yard.
A WEEK NOT FOR A BALE
11 haynets a week
a big round bale would last me a month but im not aloud to buy it for myself.
Livery yards are so restricting
one guy i visited told me i had to buy and feed my horse his home made feed!
and yes i am trying to stop my pics going down

I think anyone who can feed their horse on hayledge for around £10-15 a week is doing well - I think livery yards have to cover their admin costs and make a bit too - I was on my own once and realised how cheap livery worked out by the time I had done all the poo picking, fencing, field maintenance, (and not riding much)

Hope its good stuff tho

When we had our own place it was £15 for a big round bale and 3 horses went through that in about a week. Now im on livery they charge us £8 per week! [for my size horse]. And your only allowed 1 haynet per day

This years crop of haylage and hay will be in short supply due to the dry hot summer. Here in SW big bale haylage has risen from £20/bale to £42/bale and will be at least £50 by new year. Beef and dairy farmers think they will probably have to import when their limited stocks run out. We make out own haylage, and have had to put it up this year to £5.50 per horse ad lib per week. We anticipate running out by mid Feb.

I pay a 35p a day supplement for hayledge in the fields. There are two large round bales in at a time between about six horses.....but virtually no grass and a fair amount of mud!!

why do livery yards have to make a bit too? i pay £18 a week livery.
in kent i payed £20 a week stable whenever i wanted turn out whenever i wanted, buy my own hay & straw and was given some where to store it.
up north i pay £18 pound a week i have to turn my horse out only on tues thurs and saturadays which by the way are the days i am free and want to ride not turn out.
and i have to but priced up hay and starw?
if i want to buy it myself when £20 would last me a month why shouldnt i?
If the livery yards started dictating what feed you fed and that you had to buy it from them would people put up with it?
i know which yard i prefer!!
