Tuesday night Axeys haynet came undone and he got his leg tangled up in it. By the time I got there in the morning he had been stuck in it for quite a long time judging by the amount of poo all in one place

I eventually untangled him and it had actually rubbed a sore into his leg, and had left quite a dented bit around his pastern.
This morning his leg was swollen up like a balloon, although he isn't lame its really sore. I turned him out in the small paddock for an hour and then cold hosed it and it seemed a lot better. I then put my Bioflow magnetic boots on him and they were taken off this evening.

So Axey had to have his hay on the floor last night and you should have seen the state of his bed this morning, it took me ages to muck out!!
I can now see the point of haybars...........

Or failing that, go to a builders merchant and they sell huge tub trugs made out of indestructable rubber, like giant feed skips. They're fab for putting hay in!! (oh and they're only a fiver!) They're made for carrying bricks and cement in so are really strong.
 
Haynets are my enemy at the mo too! Left new boy in the stable , luckily was still on the yard, heard a tapping noise, there he was, leg caught up in it, just standing there eating with his leg really high up, not bothred, scared me though espec if I hadnt been there.
 
Hay nets are annoying but if they are tied up high and tight enough they would struggle to get thier feet stuck in it. It's happened to me before though so thank god for sensible horses!
 
I always tie my nets up really tight and loop the end of the rope through, but my friend did him for me that night and she doesn't loop the rope through and I think the knot just came undone. The net was untied and on the floor btw

i changed to trugs for that reason, but saying that two of them make such a mess of their stables, pulling the hay out and treading it in, i have changed them two back to haynets, but i only use the small holed ones and tie up high.

I got my trugs from the local garden centre they're huge.
 
God with those little small holed ones my horse would need about 5 to see him through the night!

SH, my dad is a stickler for haynet putting up, get her told! They don't come down if tied properly. x
 
My horse is so greedy.............when I leave hay on the floor there is not a scrap left in the morning it does not get a chance to get mixed up with the hay..............there isnt even any proof I have even given him any hay!!!

Personally I hate haynets too, but a good tip to make sure they are tied securely is to put an old leadrope clip on the end of the string and clip it back to the haynet holes, then you do not have to use knots, and is easier to undo quickly if needed.
 
dont like nets but fizz needs to eat slowly & her hay is soaked,in a bucket she would have it all gone by 6pm then would start on her bed

jay's would have to go on his bed & as i have got him to stop eating straw i dont want to go back to putting it down for him.

both have haylage nets,fizz has 2 small ones,jay has 2 extra large ones
