had to change hay supplier so horse now on mix of perenial and rye this hay has broader leaf than previous and horses like it however horse has been eating for a week and was horrendous to ride today not sure about different nutritional value of hay, and if this could be the cause or just the time of year. i know some haylage can make horses very fizzy. any thoughts

generally the haylage fires some horses up due to the hig sugar content due to the fermentation process. I woudl think that if tey hay is very rich in nutrients and sugar that it could have an effect on the horse but i wud say probably only a small effect and i would think it unlikely that that was why he was hot!

Send it off to be analysed then you will know then you will know the exact ADF and NDF values. The lower the values, the better the quality of the hay, the livelier your horse will become!
