hazevern touch of gold - have you heard of him

He's a 6 year old stallion - bred by Mr V Morris who - according to the IDHS(GB) database still owns him. He's by Snowford Pinkston out of a Grey Macha mare. He is eligible for RID/Class 1 status on inspection but according to the database he hasn't been forward for inspection yet (and I certainly don't remember him.)

No progeny have been registered with IDHS(GB) (doesn't mean he hasn't had any - just that none registered with IDHS(GB) and - as he's pure-bred ID - you'd expect them to be registered there!)

Janet he's definitely not been presented for grading yet & he's no longer owned by Vernon -think he was one they sold a few years ago in the dispersal sale.

He is advertised as standing at stud & I just wondered (not knowing intricacies of the IDHS rules/regulations) where or how would his offspring be registerable. E.g. If you put an RID mare to him (not saying anyone with such a mare would but just hypothetically) would the resulting foal be eligible for full ID passport showing all it's pedigree?

Janet would be able to say more definately but I think that you would have full breeding listed but it would be a class 4 passport and not eligable for upgrading till the stallion is presented for inspection.

Simsar - does that mean a filly by him could or could not be RID? Please excuse my ignorance if this is obvious :)

The term RID (Registered Irish Draught) is now actually replaced by Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 and Class 4.

Class 1 are by Class 1 or Class 2 parents and have passed full inspection, and vetting including x-rays and endoscope.

Class 2 are by Class 1/Class 2 parents, have NOT attained a pass mark from the Inspectors but have passed full vetting including x-rays and endoscope.

Class 3 have failed the vetting.

Class 4 (which Hazevern Touch of Gold is) have not been presented for grading.

Only progeny of Class 1/Class 2 stallions or or Grade 1(UK) stallions and Class 1/Class 2 or Grade-up Register mares are eligible for Class 1 or 2. Horses previously classified RID in the UK are now re-classified as Class 1.

Progeny of Class 4 stallions (or mares) are not eligible for anything until/unless their parents are graded Class 1 or 2, not even the Sport Horse Register. And IDHS(GB) will not issue covering books to anything other than Class 1 or Class 2 or RID Grade 1(UK) stallions.

The RID Grade 1(UK) stallions are stallions who were graded RID prior to the UK coming into line with Ireland and who therefore were vetted but not x-rayed or endoscoped.

Sorry if that all sounds a bit complicated but .....

Have now spotted he ended up with Ffynoncadno Stud - they have a number of ID stallions - none of them graded!

Thanks Janet - explains everything perfectly. I had thought it was unlikely that his foals would be eligible, otherwise what's the point of the grading system. His owner was adamant I was wrong.

I have owned Mozart from a foal, he is graded as is all except 1. I do not appreciate people saying to stay clear like a barge pole. I am very easy to contact also without the need for malicious gossip.
Thank you

Why resurrect an 8 year old thread then? ? nobody would really have been any the wiser, but also time changes horses, things and people.

Just googled his name and saw this discussion... I'm presuming this all happened whilst on loan. Doesn't look good if someone starts googling as I did

Why not take the opportunity to tell the whole story. Class 2 means he pasded the vetting, at least. I have had 2 x Class 2 stallions. The one who was most 'used' had 6 out of 7 fillies Graded Class 1 - not a bad performance from a stallion the Inspectors certainly didn't like! Even the very BEST of the Class 1 stallions can't guarantee ALL their fillies will Grade Class 1. Both of mine are gelded now - but that is because I have retired as a breeder - otherwise, they would have still been 'working'.
