Hi All,
I was wanting to get an Ifor Williams HB 511, but I've been worried by the mould issues and recalls mentioned on here. Is an HB 511 still the best choice - I know people swear by Ifor Williams, but is there another brand you would recommend? Needs to be a similar price. I would like to get a new one so it reduces worry about the wear a second hand trailer has had and any safety issues related to it.
Any advice would be brilliant!
Thank you

I have an Equitrek. Mick hates everything involved with travelling, but he runs in the equitrek and I don't hear a peep out of him.. Sometimes I wonder if I've forgot to put him in.

But be prepared for bits to fall off.. I just stick em back on and don't worry.

Ive got a Bockmann which I absolutely love. It tows like a dream and my 17hh warblood travels in it perfectly. Its 6 years old now, is used regularly ( 2 or 3 times a week) and still looks like new!

I went to look at an equitrek this week, and am taking OH and sponsors tomorrow to try and get a final yes out of them. We are looking at the multitrekka model, but I had a look at the smaller ones and I really like them too. When I spoke to the dealer about quality issues, he agreed and said they do have big issues with customer satisfaction (bits falling off etc) but they are getting better, and at that dealership (Kings Lynn) they will put anything right that goes wrong etc.

I currently have an Ifor 505 and although I love the old style Ifor's, I wouldn't buy a new style one. Having been in them and looked them over, there are just things that to me look unfinished or un thought out.

I know you said you're not sure about second hand but it is worth keeping your eye out for a good condition, relatively new Ifor williams 510. I picked up a 3y/o one this year for under 3K and really can't fault it. it was imaculate. you can also lift the mats etc easily to check the floor so no worries there...

I havea richardson supreme ultra and its brilliant. I looked at an ifor when I brought it and my richardson is so much better. Front ramp opens onto the kerb not straight onto the road and it is actually bigger inside than an ifor 510. Its floor is guaranteed for the life of the trailer. Its just altogether better

I went to the Ifor Williams dealer near me to look at the HB511 and ended up coming home with a second hand (but by the looks of it hardly used) HB510. I am sooooo relieved we made that decision now I read all the problems people are having with the HB511's!
But actually the thing that put me off the HB511 was the plastic hinges/fittings as I did not feel they would withstand the abuse from my horses (AKA thugs). However they must be robust as I have not heard of any breaking.

i love my equitrek and would highly recommend them. I bought direct from the manufacturers and they have been absolutely brilliant.
the only other trailer I woudl look at is a bateson.

I've recently bought a Bateson Deauville and absolutely love it, my horses love it too (have the american style doors and they all load without the ramp, just step in

). It's light and airy inside, can't fault anything about it, well worth a look at.

I had a 505 and bougt the new ifor 511 love it its big and airy I tried a bateson but that was very small and i'm a ifor fan they told me that they normally give the new trailers to people to test them but they didn't with these so now i think they are regretting this as they are having to recall I would love a equi-trec but they are very expensive and I wanted new no one elses dirt !!! and I only travel up to 1/2 hr to each meet.

I got rid of my 3 year old Ifor 505 which horse hated and we bought a Richardson Supreme Excel, it is rear facing and it is absolutely fab. Horse travels so well in it and it feels so safe and sturdy. Will NEVER go back to an Ifor now.
