As title really. Was just wondering if the new HB511 is very much different to the old model. Is it bigger, lighter or more luxurious in any way. From the exterior they do look completely different but what improvements have they made?

I am looking to get a trailer and wondered if the new version was worth splashing out for.

Thank you :-)

If I was after an ifor then I would go for the older one! The new one is v plasticy and I found it v rattly too, but without additional perks like some updated suspention! People have also had problems with mould inside which IW have struggled to sort out.
Tbh (over sensitive mare to travel!) then if you are looking at spending ifor £ then I would check out Wessex, the olympian is their large model and it is bloomin' brilliant! No scary rattles, much smoother ride thanks to decent suspention and hugely better build quality without it being a heavier trailer. Also has a much better basic spec like leather padding on the walls etc, v smart!

I've got a 511 and am very disappointed with it. Although it looks very nice it is rather flimsy, and we've had endless trouble with it. Mould all over the interior which IW have done very little about, had it back and treated it/repainted four times now but it still comes back. We fought for a full refund but they were having none of it. IMO if you buy faulty goods your entitled to take it back but obviously not with them!! The top back doors randomly pop open, the grooms door sticks, I got stuck inside once and had to put my boot to it to get out. Overall, it looks nice and gets my horses from a to b but in hindsight would def go for a wessex and will be as soon as I've saved enough pennies to change.

I have recently bought a 2yr old 511 and love it - so does my 596kg 16hh ID - it is light, airy and he travels really well in it, I was worried as I have just downsized from a 7.5t 2 horsebox but I am really happy!

Do some research though as there is a problem with mould in some of the first models 2008 I think. I like the plastic moulding it is easy to keep clean and the horse cannot hurt himself if tied up on the outside by catching himself on the mudguards/indicator panels as they could on the 510/505's.

I have a 510 which is fine. Someone came to pick up a foal in a 511 and we asked them to lock the grooms door as it didn't look safe. I mentioned this to one of my friends and she said she did exactly the same thing when someone was collecting a foal from her! I much prefer the 510, but the new ones look very smart!

I have the 505 but two friends have the 510 and I've been to look at the 511... apart from a skin & an interior makeover + a grooms door which is bigger.. if you stripped it to chasis and frame... not a jot is different.

I would do a search on here & read up about the 511s before splashing out. If you can get hold of a 510 then imo you may be better doing so.

I had many, many problems with my 511 which all appear to be usual!! The jockey door problem, rusty ramp springs, mould, coming unhitched when pulling away, horses travelling poorly etc etc. Ifor Williams were a nightmare to deal with and when I refused to have the roof sprayed & painted for a second time due to mould they apparently took my trailer all the way back to Wales & fitted it with a new roof lining that they guaranteed wouldn't go mouldy - you can guess the rest!! When I queried why the new one was black a few months after fitting it seemed that just maybe they hadn't fitted a new roof at all but had just kept my trailer for 4 weeks, washed the original roof & sent it back. I could go on & on about the issues but won't bore you!

When I had finally had enough I traded it in for an Equi-Trek & did a deal based on a trade in value. However the dealer made a mistake & thought I had a 510 so when he realised it was a 511 I was trading in he REDUCED the offer!! I would have got more for a 5 year old 510 than I got for a 2 year old 511!!!

One thing to bear in mind is that my horses travelled very badly in the 511 although they had never sweated up or had a problem in my old 510. When querying this it seemed that the towbar has to be set at a different height for the 511 and mine wasn't high enough so the trailer was continually snaking. From memory IW recommend 19 inches as anything lower than this causes problems, which I do find strange as the 510 towed beautifully on my towbar.

Just to let you know I had the same problem with groom door - bt if you ask your local dealer they should be able to fix it by putting a new lining on it or something. :)
