Went to a show today, with friends, and it was blowing a hooley, awful wind all day. Himself hates wind, so kindof expected problems, and the show was in a very exposed field which wasn't ideal.

Anyway, things were going OK'ish till we got in the Fancy Dress ring; and then The Toad basically errupted, bucked, pranced, reared up, did a right hooley - end result we had to exit from the ring PDQ.

I think the main problem was the wind - but also, in fancy dress, you've got kids on ponies with Kate Middleton's train flowing in the wind, plus Cruella De Ville complete with feather boa (again took a flight in the wind and ended up on the grass slithering around looking like a snake which Himself couldn't handle).

We were entered for the Family Pony. Didn't dare put him in the ring again after throwing his toys out the pram.

Took him back to the lorry; THEN his companions went off to their classes and he put up his head and hollered and neighed at everyone else around, and dancing around on his lead rope, which meant I had to stand shotgun over him and watch him or else he'd have broken away and taken a hike.

Blimmin, blimmin, blimmin horses. If I'd had a gun in my hand I'd have shot the blighter and enjoyed doing it; there's a local horse sale on Tuesday so thoughts of that were going through my mind!!!!! He's normally such a nice boy too. Grrrrrggghhhh! Little Towrag!

Anyone else's horses being a fruit-loop in this pesky blimmin wind?

one of mine hates the wind with a passion. last week we had to try and do controlled walking round our village as shes on box rest, combined with wind and bunting and flags = nightmare.. put it down to a bad day ,youll laugh about it later.

Wasn't the wind last week - the prat of a horse decided that the fillers in the SJ ring were intensely scary and he couldn't possibly go anywhere near some of them. Was eliminated for the first time ever (although has been placed 1st in other shows) and the worse thing was, it was a ODE so wasn't allowed to go XC (the best bit)!

My normally quiet horse can misbehave in the wind. There is a theory that in a high wind they can't hear properly, so they get worried and this makes them extra spooky.

Next time can you take him out for a LONG ride the day before?

O no. Strike of the knobber horse disease.

Mine is set to permanent knobber and the dial has broken off. Grrr!!!! He doesn't need any excuse to be an idiot but has been particularly bad with all the grass we have.

Oh yeah, the grass .... that was another thing. At the field there was LOADS of the blimmin stuff, so of course he started to stuff his face full of the stuff .... like, he's totally starved/RSPCA case at home, so don't think that helped either, coz I reckon he got a bit possessive about it and didn't want to leave it to go into the ring. Plus the fact that by the end of the day I reckon it had well and truly reached his guts by the end of the day ..... deffo, judging by the poo he left on his travelling kit and a great pile of it in the lorry like an elephant had been in there, it sure did.
