I HATE those FB groups "buy/sell in your local area" especially when you see things like this ...

"Would anyone be interested in a beautiful golden retriever he is pale colour and is very loving he has pedigree and is 4 yrs old, brilliant with kids and is house trained.Only to a very good home £100 to ensure a perfect home"

[It then shows a pic of him lying down in a garden]

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Look at it this way, at least they are trying to sell/find a home for it and not just dumping their problem on the nearest overloaded rescue center !!

Although if mutt was re-homed from a rescue centre it would be with a 'vetted' home....not just any ol place flashin the cash! Even if they are over crowded ...:mad::mad:

How do you know they wont vet the home themselves ? circumstances change you dont know what has happened in the family. At least selling it the sort of people that will exchange cash should hopefully be better then the "Want something for nothing brigade"

They are doing nothing worse than greedy breeders who churn out litter after litter !!

Gingerarab, talk to any rescue and they will tell you what they think of sites like these.
Dogs that would previously have been surrendered to rescues and shelters where they would be neutered, vaccinated and homes tightly vetted, are now being hawked to the highest bidder and shunted around. They are also breeding (sorry) grounds for dog dealers, puppy farmers and dog fighting rings looking for bait dogs.
These people may think they are doing the right thing but this dog could be sold in good faith for £100 to someone with a good story, who could then resell for much more, be ripped apart by fighting dogs or go into a breeding operation and earn some shysters £££££

There has been a huge sea change in the way dogs are being disposed of because of these sites, and not in a good way :(
As mentioned, backyard breeders (not everyone who breeds a litter is greedy, but agree there are a lot of shysters out there) are using these sites as well, very heavily.

LOL "Want something for nothing Brigade" :D:D I like that!!!! :D:D:D

True! It annoyed me, as i 'know' the name posting on the FB page.....

I hope there are genuine people out there, who vet and sell to the right home. Although, TBH, If i was to sell my dog, because circumstances forced the situation, i would never choose this place??:confused::confused:

Agreed, would never buy or sell on Gumtree, Donedeal, Facebook, or even Champdogs or E-Pups tbh, no offence to anyone who has on here. Word of mouth or breed/working club recommendation for me, or rescue.

They don't "dump" on the rescue because they want to get money out of their dog. I normally try to see both sides but really don't have much time for people selling on their pets. If they were geniune they would try to work with a good rescue to find another home - which also means KEEPING the dog until the rescue manage to find someone and not dumping it on a rescue - which is a charity - which is paying for the kennel spaces - which means another dog won't have that space.

Personally I would never sell my pet, I have several horses that range from 26 to the oldest pony being 41, I could never imagine selling my dog as they are all part of the family. Call me nieve but I'd like to imagine that circumstances have changed and they are forced to try and find a better home for a pet. I do realise is the reality is that they had a cute puppy and now its a fully grown dog that needs a lot of attention.

Sometimes I would just hope to see that not all people are bad and some are just trying to do their best ????

Ginger, spend an hour or so on Gumtree or Donedeal, seems to be a lot of people emigrating, or moving to a smaller house (all, funnily at the same sort of age range, 8-24 months, strangely, when they stop being fluffy fun monsters), also lots of people who's little kiddie's puppy or granny's old dog just died and want a free or cheap replacement. Funny that.

Agree with this. People often love the idea of having a cute puppy but have no idea re training, behaviour etc and end up with a large dog with no manners and blame all on the dog :( which then leads to complete and utter tosh (^^ as stated above) in order to get rid of the pain in the ass they used to coooo over!

Makes me mad!!!

You get some interesting ads on Freeads.co.uk as well :o I did find both my current dogs from that site though... Izzy spent the first 12 weeks of her life in a shed and Jake spent the first 7 weeks on a boat (His breeders boasted on his ad that he was fed every brand of puppy food possible as this is apparently how you stop dogs from being fussy eaters  He was also allowed to roam the fields before he had any jabs :o )

Well, thank the lord they found you! Although, i fear, your story is a rare one :(

Many end up in the wrong hands and will, in a few months, end up re-advertised on the same sites :(

Very sad
