Hi
I have an 8 year old Hispano Arab mare an awesome horse. Earlier this year I noticed when she ran in the field she was occasionally violently flicking her head back to the left towards her abdomen (80% left sometimes right). In trot and canter intermittently. It stopped then and started a bit, stopped again and sometimes very few weeks happened at end of a trail ride when just walking back relaxed. Twisted towards my leg. No issues out on a hack super relaxed as always. She started also throwing the odd buck on landing when jumping and reluctant to canter left lead. So we stopped jumping. Easy to ask anything on right. Then Seemed to go away. Had vet and chiropractor both check her over and saddle also and couldn’t find anything and teeth were checked. Over the last month she’s got a bit girth you on the left and started head flicking again sometimes (like an ouch movement) and two days ago just could not transition trot to canter on left. Or on lunge. She’s not sore to touch anywhere, back fine, she’s in great condition, very genuine, happy, no issues mounting or out riding, eating well, super chilled with other horses no mareish behaviour (I read about ovary cysts and tumours increasing testosterone she’s not exhibiting any other bad behaviour). Arabs do head toss but this is a definite obvious twist motion once every few minutes although she’s still happy to gallop merrily around herself. Ears up always and relaxed when riding. Except canter ask. Ovaries? Ulcer? Gastric? Any ideas? I’m a newish owner. She’s clearly got discomfort just not sure what to look for next.
