every spring for a month or so my horse develops head shaking when near any bushes with blossom on them - it stops once the blossom falls. i have tried a nose net but it doesnt really help - has anyone got any ideas on what to give to help please??

Have you tried feeding your horse local honey? I have heard that they then start to build up some immunity to the pollen that way (don't know if its true or not?!) It didn't work with my mare, but with head shaking every horse is different! My mare is mostly manageable in a nose net and riding when the sun isn't out/or too bright. Her headshaking is down to pollen and sunlight!

I have also tried:

Antihistamine's
Chinese Horse Biscuits
NAF Shake Relief
Bongela (spread on nostrils to numb them - worked once, but then never again!)
Vaseline (again spread on nostrils to trap pollen, dust etc and stop it going up nose)

I have heard of a product called nostrilvet which you squirt up their nose. I have not tried it but am looking to get some and give it ago!

I have tried Antihistamines, shake relief, shake free, indian herbs, anti epileptic drugs, nostrilvet (which helps on odd days and not others) stabling daytime riding indoors, etc etc, my horse seems to be triggered by tree pollen at the moment, particularly willows. I am just waiting to start on homeopathic remedies from Ainsworths next. Did vibrational therapy and bach flower remedies and essential oils, nothing seems to consistently help. Only time I can ride is when its been pouring down for at least 6 hours!!!
If you come across a solution please let me know. All the best of luck with yours too
