My horse [homebred] is a head shaker and with a nose net he has been fine but today at horse trials dressage he was much worse than usual. There was a lot of rape growing around the area and a lot of small black flies near the grass.Has anyone had success with any supplements or medication

BLoss has Global Herbs products - Skratch (one suppliment) Zephyr (another suppliment). I find they have helped to reduce her head shaking significantly, and she seems more comfortable.

I might add that she is a very severe headshaker and has it nearly all year round. She has to wear a full face/nose mask at all times, even when stabled otherwise she gets so aggatted that she rubs her face on the stable wall and makes it bleed

But shes much better now on the suppliments (been on it nearly a year now).

Do headshakers show symptoms when they are turned out grazing? Its not something I know a lot about so wondered if you need to keep them stabled?

Mine headshakes to pollen for a couple of summer months....she's worse out, but smacks her head on stable walls due to uncontrollable twitching when in...so lesser of two evils is out....

try feeding a spoonful of local honey in each meal through the year... sounds really silly, and not sure if it does take immediate effect, but stops the horse suffering with "hayfever symptems... same as people really"
for more immetiade effcts email me on shandy133@hotmail.com or phone 07970126906. as i can get a number of homeopathic treatements for it. xxxx

I believe that Liverpool are conducting a trial of a supplement produced by NAFF this summer. I presume the cost of this would be covered by the company, so it might be worh asking your vet to find out some more and perhaps refer your horse.

i know it seems silly but when did the dentist last visit?? rowenna headshakes because her teeth cut her cheeks poor thing so we got the dentist out straight away XD and she eventualy got better with not shaking :P
