My ex racehorse tilts his head when he canters (not so much when he trots?!) I have had his teeth done and his back and neither are an issue. does anyone have any ideas what I can do about this???
Apologies if I am telling you wrong but I had this issue in all gaits for a while with a horse I used to own it was a while ago now.
Anyway my trainer said ,for example if the horse was tilting his nose to the right, to raise your opposite rein alittle, so if on a circle on the right rein horse was tilting his head to the outside but nose point ting to the inside sky wards raise your outside rein for correction.
God reading that back it sounds a terrible explanation but it worked for me and we improved him no end.
My ex racehorse did that for a while when I first got him mostly trotting up hills. He still does it a bit when being schooled and finding it hard work. I was just told to give him a good kick because its an evasion tactic.
my horse (ex racer!) does it too when leg yeilding
I then straightned everything up and asked him to do it again, as it seems to be an evasion tactic and he gets a good firm squeeze to get him to walk on!
It is probably tension. Just make sure you are working inside leg into outside rein Important not to hang on to the inside rein. My chap did this but fine now.
