Which one do you recommend?

* Needs to be rechargeable
* Doesn't blind J or unsuspecting liveries
* Used for general yard work and poo picking
* Not one in a bobble hat etc. as I get too hot

Trying to get a head start of the dreaded W word.

i buy a new Horsewear baseball hat with LED lights every winter, really bright and keep rain out of your eyes, for some reason they die every summer but about £12 each, bargain

I really don't like wearing hats so would prefer just a head torch if possible :)

I've got a Petzl Core, which I have had for about 7 or 8 years, and is still going strong. Nice adjustable, washable, comfy headband. Rechageable with the same charger as my phone ( always a bonus ! ) Battery lasts ages, and mine is the original one and still going strong. It has adjustable lights on a button on the top of it, so easy to change setting. Can be focussed more on feet, or a mix of feet and eye level, and it also has a red setting. Can't say I understand the what/where/how, but its like having low level light, without the dazzle. Great for checking animals in fields, sheep in shed etc. It also has a non dazzle thingy that means it turns itself down if it detects light coming back towards it of a certain level. Great if you are mucking out and suddenly dazzle yourself on a wall, or go round a corner and dazzle / get dazzled in return, by another early morning/late evening livery doing the same !

I would recommend one where the battery part is separate and on the back of your head. I bought one which is all in one unit on the front of the band but I find it rather heavy on my forehead and if I don't have a hat on it slips down.

Petzl Actik core. Has low setting, red light option and is fabulous. I bought mine for running, but use it in yard as well. Useful for when horses are way down the field and you just want to check they're present and correct!
