Hi

Can anyone recommend a good, bright head torch for riding in. My daughter will have to be doing some hacking in the dark soon (no road work) and the head torches we have are not bright enough. Also does anyone know of any other lights that she can use, on the stirrups for example.

Thanks for any advice.

if you can spring for one, lupine make the most incredible head torches and bike lights. Brighter than car headlights!
I cannot express how devastatingly bright.
They are very expensive tho.

We have petzel head torches and these give a very good amount of light, they're not the cheapest but ours have lasted a long time. The only stirrup lights I've seen are the ones we use if hacking out at dusk and they flash white at the front and red at the back but wouldn't give out any light to enable her to see better. I'd be temped to get a couple of good head torches and wear one over the hat and take the other off its elastic and attach it to the horses chest on a martingale or at the front of a neck strap maybe (try the horse first obviously in a safe place to make sure copes with the light movement), that way it will light the way in front of the horse.

Try a running shop - you can get little clip-on lights for runners that you could maybe clip/tie on to stirrups too. I have one of these headtorches: http://www.millets.co.uk/equipment/...=46110001357&gclid=CJWVk8_D1MECFSoEwwodjJ8AIw
Gives a good amount of light and has a red light at the back too. The light can be angled and it has a motion sensor so you can turn it off with a wave (rather than fumbling with gloves) which is quite handy when you get back to the yard and don't want to blind everyone you look at (or if you want to feel a bit like a Jedi).

Having said that, the only reason I bought this is because I can't find my beloved Petzl which must be about 10 yrs old by now and still going strong despite being MIA. I'm not shelling out for a new one when I know I've seen it in the house in the last month or so! They're expensive, but worth it.

Agree with the Petzl recommendations. The other thing she could try is a light vest from seememore.co.uk. They're 30 quid, but I tried mine out on Tuesday and it was stupidly bright! Red lights down the back, white down the front and two flashing, one static options. Another livery's husband saw me up the hay field and described it as a 'floating robot'. 😆

Here's the link. For once, the review doesn't do the brightness justice.
