i am looking for a headcollar i used to own - it was a rope headcollar with about 5 metal points for pressure on the poll, and it tightened around the nose too as the horse pulled... anyone any ideas where i can find one?

i know the sort you mean, we used to sell them at Millbry Hill.... I'm trying to remember the name of them.... They were from a western supplier... I'll come back in a bit when I remember what they were called.

That's a Monty Roberts 'Be Nice' halter. I used to have one of those years ago and it was great for teaching my pony to lead when she carted me off even in a bridle. I don't use it anymore - don't need to as she has reached 'overgrown puppy' status.

I agree... that's exactly the one I was thinking of too! It dawned on me as I was halfway to work this morning and I've only just got back in to reply and find that someone else got there first!

Just a word of caution with this very type of headcollar -with mal/overuse, you can end up with a very head shy horse.
A Livery yard owner some years back had decided our horse was too much for her to handle and used one of these (without telling us...) to turn him out every morning. Three weeks later we could not work out why a horse that had never been a problem to catch would not have a headcollar put on him.
We had to move yard and it took about 18 months for the horse to be ok again (there never was a problem in the first place but he was a big horse and I think she was frightened of him).
