Headcollar on in the field.

Im a bit worried as Tont is out permenantly with a headcollar on. Its a leather headcollar (the break-away ones rub him raw) and I don't want him to get it caught and injure himself, but he needs it on as you can't get near him otherwise. But with the headcollar on he's an angel

Would he be alright like this or is it too risky?

If he has to wear one, leather should at least snap under pressure. Not ideal but better than a nylon one. What happens if you try to catch him when he's not wearing one?

Well you can't lol Everytime you get near him he canters off, so he really does need it on just incase.

It is just like a normal headcollar but has two clips at the side. A metal one for leading, tie up etc, and a thinner plastic one for leaving on in the field. It also has a velcro strap too. It has never rubbed my mare and is padded on the noseband and headpiece.
