Does his head take after his TB side or the ID side?

If you go for something leather and it's a bit big, then you could always punch a few more holes in. Or the cottage craft headcollars that adjust on the nose, throat and poll straps are very adjustable - they have lots of holes and even my anglo can get away with a full sized one of those and she has a teeny head for her height.

Hello all :)

Would you suggest a cob or full size headcollar for a 16HH ISH?

Many thanks!
I think you need a full size.....my 14.3 Connie is in cob size Horseware as lots of cob size headcollars are too small - he doesn't look as if he has a big head. My 16.1 tb is in a full size and all makes seem to fit him. Cob size does seem to err on the small size in mho.

Largely depends on the manufacturers, in Saddlery there are no set sizes for anything.I have at least 3 sets of measurements if not more, for pony, cob and full sizes in headcollars and bridlework yet they are all different!
Better to go too big and either punch holes in straps as suggested or if really too large get it adjusted by your local saddler,

That's why it's so frustrating CDM. I have a 'pony' size headcollar that fits all of my horses (the biggest is a 15.2hh anglo arab, but she does have a small head as mentioned above). It's pretty much the same size as one of my cob size headcollars, but another cob sized one was too big and needed extra holes. I now take a tape measure with me when buying headcollars and bridles.

I would *think* a full.

My 16.3 Clydesdale x TB takes a full but could take an extra full easliy.
My 15.2 Welsh D takes both cob and full with little difference.

At the yard we managed to get a headcollar that gets put on a 12hh shetland x on a 16.2 cobby type, albeit a bit small but did the job for a 5 minute walk!

Fab! I went with my gut and did get a full today... I guess the test will be when I take it down and try it on! :)

It just looks huge!! I feel like it will swamp her, but hopefully it will fit okay :)

Full was a good choice I suspect, my idxtb takes full head collar and only just fits in full jefferies bridle with nose on last (to make it as big as possible) hole!
