Hi, after hearing the horror stories about hoods i dont fancy suing one, however i'm getting a bit fed up of scrubbing my horses neck clean every day, he is turned out in a full neck rug, but i does not cover the very top of his neck. So, my question is do the headless hoods stay up or do they slip down? Also does anywhere do a hood that just comes over the poll and ears maybe? (i have looked and cant find one yet)

Thank you!

I use the snuggy headless hoods on my shetlands before shows (don't have stables so its bath and back out rugged and hooded). They stay up fine, I use the zip ones for ease but did have to go larger than the size guide suggests.

I have one which I call a snood. Only ever used it in the stable though so not sure what it would be like outside. I think I got mine off eBay, its branded 'handsome horse'. Has a bit of elastic at the top and some Velcro at the neck to secure it.

I've got a Snuggy Hoods headless hood for my traddie cob.

Happy with the quality, however the fastening nearest the ears (i.e. smallest part of the neck) always seems to want to turn itself inside out!!!! Sorry that probably doesn't make any sense, but nonetheless its a handy little item. My cob has sweet itch, so I don't use it specifically for keeping him clean (although it helps!) but to keep any stray midges at this time of year away from his neck/mane area.

Can I just gate crash this thread! The people that use the zip ones..... do they rub? My Warmblood is getting shoulder rubs and despite having a full neck turnout on still manages to squeeze mud down there. I was hoping in might help with the draft causing a hairy patch too.

I use the Snuggy headless ones too and they are very good, I dont find that they rub

I have not found one yet that covers the poll however I have a couple of hoods with faces that dont fit so well around the face and that I would not be happy to leave the pony unattended in so I plan to cut those down so they cover the poll and ears and move the velcro up to under the jaw - my pony rubs the area where his head meets his neck so the idea is to cover that area

I've got a Snuggy Hoods sweet itch body for my SI pony one but I've not been particularly happy with it and have gone back to using the Rambo. My problem with it was mainly Snuggy Hoods material. I found that when it got wet and muddy it got heavy and stretched and the rug would slide back and rub in front of his withers and slide down his tail a little even though in dry conditions it fit him fine. I also gave up with the head that came with it as it wouldn't stay in position and slipped over his eyes.
