Today I had the scariest ride I have had in a long long time. To get to the bridle path we have do do a mile or so of road work. Chad does occasionally headshake in summer, usually it is just mild shakes and lots of snot being blown from his nostrils (not nice when it flies back and hits you!).
Today he was a nightmare, violently shaking to the extent he and I almost parted company on more than one occasion, which isn't nice when cars are whizzing past you on narrow roads
It has really put me off riding him in summer but I have a net muzzle on the way and will try him in that to see if it helps. I think I will take OH with me carrying a bit red flag to wave at traffic to make sure they give me a wide berth!
Apart from the nose net is there anything else I can do to stop him headshaking? He wears ear thingies (sorry my mind really won't work tonight!) so he isn't bothered with flies in his ears. Will vaseline in his nose help until his nose net arrives?
Just to add - his saddle is fine and he is in a Dr Cook bitless bridle. He only headshakes in summer, is fine in winter.
