George got into a scrap in the field today and managed to cut his back leg right on the fetlock at the front across the joint

of course he would pick a Sunday and the day I was 100 miles away at my niece's Baptism. Thankfully the yard were brilliant and got the vet out ASAP who has managed to stitch the wound (just) and bandaged him up so he can't move the joint much so hopefully it will all heal ok. He is also on anti b's and 10 days box rest

Oh no! Your posts are so lovely and your pics in your signature that I feel like I know him! Hope he gets better soon x

Sorry to hear about it, but don't worry , most injuries heal really well provided the vet stitches them soon enough.
You may want to bandage the other leg with a stable bandage if it starts to swell, but be careful not to do it too tight.
I'd also supply some toys to keep him happy such as a swede on a rope or a lickit, we find substituting the hard feed with a bucket of carrots works, the horse feels he's had a feed but really he hasn't.
Keep everybody posted with pics if you don't mind, it helps all of us see what to expect from that type of injury.

If it's any help my pony got bitten by a dog and had a big gash across the side and front of the fetlock, sounds like a similar wound to George. Vet was all doom and gloom, said it might break down as it was in a difficult place, lots of movement in the fetlock joint, could take weeks etc etc.

But he healed perfectly in two weeks, had staples out, went out in field two days after that, and is now back in work. So hope George heals as well as Leo did.

It must be spring fever causing the horses to have accidents ,as my friend at the yards horse Oliver has just managed to damage a fence and ended up with a nasty deep cut and removed a bit of his hoof!
So healing vibes to both horses and a speedy recovery to them both !

Hope he heals well, I am sure he will be fine as it has been treated so quickly. I agree with kinderhorse, my mare came in yesterday with a pretty nasty over-reach injury from galloping about and being daft in the field!

I agree with HH I would consider bandaging other leg to make him feel even but not too tight helps. I didn't think george was a scapper. Haha. Give him a kiss from me he's lovely even if he is chestNUT

Little monkey! Hope he recovers soon, I'm sure he will. My horse must love those vet wraps - she's always up to mischief but seems to heal fine. I think they just like the pampering
