My 16yo cat was sick last week and didn't want to eat and was very subdued to took to vet same day. Injection for nausea and home but still no better so back in and put on drip. After a lot of confusion the vet has found an enlarged heart and endocarditis, with a very fast heart rate and an episode of atrial fibrillation. Anyway puss is home and I have been trying to feed him with liquidised food from the vets as they suggested. He seems fairly well in himself-considering what he has been through-but just has no appetite at all.

He is various meds: antibiotics and digoxin for his heart.

Vets awaiting hyperthyroidism test result too.

He is such a family friend and we are all so upset to see him like this.
Have tried but he just has no interest in food, and I hate forcing him, it's bad enough having to give him all the pills.

So please think of him if you have time-he is called Spice.

Any advice also welcomed.

Poor puss cat :( nice juicy tuna, in spring water not oil brine. Hope he picks up for you. Royal canin do a chicken and rice wet food, worth a try as well, it's a sensitivity food so won't upset him.

Your poor old cat, sending masses of *healing vibes* his way.
I would try all kinds of things feed wise as I would be very worried feeding all these pills on an empty tummy. Have you tried pilchards or something very fishy?
x

Sorry to hear this, you could try some white fish or some chicken, I find if you give them one piece at a time like a treat they go for it more than a bowlful , also those little whiskers treats are good!
Sending vibes x

Update-thank you all so much for advice and suggestions. As we had steak pie tonight I offered him some and I put a little on his lips as suggested. And he has just eaten some-mostly just licked the gravy but that's the first thing he has even looked at!!!!

I know how cats become part of the family, I lost my beloved lad last year and miss him every day.

I found smearing a bit of his favourite food on his coat helped as he'd clean himself up and eat it.

I hope he soon pics up, it's terrible when they're poorly :(

Hope you continue to see improvements. Sending biggest vibes. When my jazz was poorly and on a drip the only thing he would consider eating was chicken - the cooked chunks of breast that you get, you know the expensive stuff. Typical jazz.
He sends spice a healing purr x

They are such a worry aren't they? It's unusual for a vet to send home a cat that woudn't eat after dehydration, what is the plan for him? .... have you tied tuna in brine (not oil), pilchards in tomato sauce (mashed),and coli (cooked)?

Hi they sent him home because they felt he was pining and wanted to be at home where they hoped he would be more likely to eat. He has an appt. tomorrow again. I am going to go to the shops early and get a few more things to try-though the gravy seems to be worth another try. He usually has an enormous appetite-it's so hard to see him like this.

Sending healing vibes to Spice.....we run a cattery and we find smearing a little philadelphia cheese or marmite on the cats paw encourages fussy eaters. Usually once they start licking it they start to get an appetite and show more interest in their other food..........all the best x

Sending good vibes your way. We nearly lost out cat this summer, he got a blocked bladder and was in cat-hospital for over a week on a drip - he was totally off his food, but we finally cracked it with sardines!

Our poorly cat lived for several weeks on cat milk (whiskers i think) for several weeks unil he recovered his appetite = might be worth a try. Good luck

Thank you to all for your messages - swilliam -he seems to tolerate the cat milk (by syringe) so I will persevere with that and try some of the other ideas.
