Hi, hope everyone is as well as can be, considering circumstances.

I've been looking online for a 'healthy' version of a stable lick, preferably one that can be hung up?

The yard my loan horse and his companion are kept at by their owners are not getting turnout Fri - Mon (I know; I've literally had a dull pain in my chest since all this began, I'm beyond stressed; but the yard owners will have their reasons and will be trying to manage all the horses, their other businesses had to close so they won't have their usual income for staff; I have no influence or control over the situation) I'm not allowed to visit, but luckily one of my friends is allowed to go and she has been keeping an eye on them and doing little things for them.

I've been supplying fruit and veg and hay blocks, so they can get one carrot a day and Fri-Mon a carrot, an apple and a hay block or swede on one day, they tend to eat them quick, but it must surely break up their day and give them something fresh.

They can't have nets as it is too much to ask my friend, she has multiple horses of her own to do, she's the only DIY allowed, and has to limit her time there, also nobody is around for a very long time, so if they got caught in the nets somehow, nobody would know.

They have himalayan salt licks, the companion uses her's up quick but my chap is not fussed, his last months!

I sometimes let them have a big molassesy-type block in a tub but only very occasionally when I'm doing something like foot care or grooming, never unsupervised. I'm very aware there's loads of sugar in things like Likits so don't want to leave anything like that with them.

I'm hoping sort of rota system will be introduced soon or in some way be allowed to visit, even for an hour, over these 4 days especially, but thought a lick would be something else for them to do? Their stables are not big enough for treat balls, and they don't have buckets to bob apples.

Are these any good, could I tie these on a rope? I need something my friend could quickly tie up with no fuss and be safe.

Hope you can see these links? Too sugary? If there's nothing available, I will just leave it, I don't want to risk too much sugar or an unsafe situation.

Thanks, if you have any suggestions :)

If you can get them to the yard without defrosting issues, I used to make fruit and veg lollies. Chop up Apple or whatever, stick in a big yogurt pot and top up with water and dangle bailing twine in the water then freeze. You can hang them the next day. They won't last very long but depending on hot hot the stables and how big the lolly, can keep going for 15-20 mins and it's something a bit different...

Thanks, never thought of this! I often make the fruit and veg on a rope in winter but this could be fun for them on a hot day!

My laminitic Shetland enjoyed the low-sugar Uncle Jimmy’s Hanging Balls. He couldn’t be turned out for six months so he was in a big pen in a field shelter which the horses used a lot so he had some company. He soon learnt to duck as it swung towards him.

:D
I've just ordered a couple of the Rockies Five Star licks, and am compling a list of other possibles!
