Hi, my poor 12yr old Border is going into Vets tommorow for a heart scan. He had a couple of strokes over the last year and now they have found that his mild heart murmer has got worse hence the scan. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of heart murmers and subsequent treatments??? They did say once they had found out exactly what was going on in his heart then they could prescribe the correct medication be it vasodilators, blood thinners, heart regulators etc. but at the moment my heart is breaking for him

as he is so depressed (read up this is a symptom of heart problems) but his balance isnt very good either. Dreading taking him tommorow and then the fetch back and finding out the results

Thanks. Didnt end up having the heart scan as vet decided his balance and depression was neurolgical and his heart murmer is nothing more than would be expected with an older dog. He did see another vet and the conclusion is he has a brain tumor

He could have an MRI scan at cost of £3000! and if operable then have the cost of the op but its not the money really dont want to put him through all that at 13 years old and dont know if he could stand at least 2 GA'S. Also would only give him about 12m more. We are going to try steroids which may reduce the tumor and give him a better quality of life for a few months.

Have another question but will post seperately about that.
