The foal i want to purchase was vetted at 2 months. he has a systolic 3/5 murmur. The vet isn't unduly concerned at this stage and thinks it may clear up over time (??) and to wait and re look at heart when at 6 months. Also suggested a heart scan if it hadn't cleared up. Has anyone else had an experience of a foal with this problem and did it indeed clear up over time?

it is a buyers market and the choice is yours, I would steer clear, plenty healthy foals out there.
If you had bred it then fair enough but as they say ' fools breed horses for wise men to ride'
who is to know if in 4, 6 or 8 years time it will be able to withstand normal work

i would walk away if this wasn't such a top class foal. Full brother is graded stallion. The progeny are proven. I may well wait and see what happens at 6 months. If still a problem then will leave well alone

Plenty of well bred healthy foals out there! Although many horses with heart murmurs can live a normal life, there will always be some who cannot and I personally wouldn't take the risk of buying a foal with a murmur. What about the cost of possible extra care, what about not being able to do the things you want to do? What about insurance?
