Heart murmur

Well my 16 year old was booked in for annual jabs this morning, fairly routine stuff, no problems etc, well it turns out that she has a grade 3 heart murmur which the vet thinks is aortic regurgitation and that she needs an ECG!!!

I've been told not to ride as any exertion could cause her to collapse!!!

We are booked in next week, but has anyone had this before and what were your experiences? Will I be able to ride and compete in the future? I know we won't really know until the ECG results but I'm just really worried as she has shown no problems, this is completely out of the blue!!

Fattys heart problem was picked up at vetting he then had an ECG which found not good things.
It's a very long story he ended up with two specialist vets who did separate reports recommending PTS of economic grounds or a LOU claim .
His owner took loss of use and gave Fatty to me it took a long time but fatty confounded the vets and recovered it took me a long time lots of effort and a lot of money to get him right .
Fatties issue was caused by a virus damaging the muscles in his heart making them misfire .
The ECG will let the vets see exactly what's the hearts doing and when and how often Fatty had one that allowed him to be worked wearing sensors .
He also had heart scans at the nearest uni which is where the specialists saw him.
He returned to full work in fact does harder work with us than he ever did in his previous home .

My friend's horse has a stage 4 one and had been competing without issue at prenovice eventing. He had regurgitation from two valves. The coloured Scan is fantastic to watch! She did retire him from eventing but he is still competing regionally at BD. The fitted they are, the less apparent the murmur is too it seems.

If you want the number of her cardiologist gimme a shout - he's good and travels.
