Has (or does) anyone own/borrow one of these to help with training/performance analysis?

I'm specifically interested in the POLAR ones but any experience would be useful!

I'm going to be looking at low level (Intro & PN) horses and whether they are fit enough for the job inhand as a project for part of my final year, so any info would be helpful!

Druid I have two immediate thoughts on this:
1. The majority of people at intro/PN whose horses are not fit enough will not have the first clue about use of a heart-rate monitor or probably even that you could get one for horses, let alone how to use it effectively for training to achieve different things.
2. They are god-damn expensive (the POLAR ones) for humans let alone the horsey ones, so I would assume that the majority of people who use them are those being ultra-careful with their top level horses....and if they have top level horses they probably know enough to get a horse properly fit for intro/PN.

Of course I may be way off the mark about what you are trying to find out, but given that the best examples I can think of where I've known them used for research purposes is the Atlanta Olympics and the recent test event in Hong Kong, I think lack of data may be a problem if you are expecting people to have them rather than you providing them.

Additionally, for a final year project there are way too many variables and chances of it going wrong/there not being enough data for my liking. Unless of course you are working with a historic data set of someone elses?

God that sounds awfully negative, but having done a biology degree I watched several people in my year see their dissertations go down the pan because of factors outside their control, so the tighter the better given the limited time for final year projects IMO...

Shall PM you!

But no - I have the POLAR (S265x) to use .... and a set of "volunteers" already, plus the hsitroical data to back it all up!

yes, i've got one, used to use it when doing work up the gallops with Int and Adv horses. haven't used it for a while and unfortunately can't remember what readings i used to look for etc. sorry! will answer any other questions if i can though!

I'm having issues with the then electrode losing contact with the horse when we move them up to canter/gallop - it picks up afterwards but there's a "blip" in the graphing where the watch & electrode have no reading...any solutions? The obvious one is girth tightening but some people like a slightly loose girth

Can ask why you don't use yours anymore either?

I might well be interested in yours if you're selling it, it's be useful to have a play around with versus our current one...PM me

It might be worth contacting some endurancey people as we tend to be a bit gadget and pulse obsessed

and use HRMs quite regularly even at relatively low levels. Could be an interesting comparison group?
