Very sadly we lost one of my dad's retired pointers on saturday vet thinks he fractured his pelvis he went down and could not get up we found him stuck in his stable all bashed up trying to get up , it was bloody awful he was really distressed as you can imagine and I will never forget his little face as soon as he seen us pricked his ears thinking we were going rescue him.

I had some sedative and gave him the whole tube which wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing in case he was able to be saved but he was bashing his face trying to get up, this did calm him thank god but vet said not to be he was shutting down and when he gave him the injection it took a while as his circulation was so poor, it was awful it really is heartbreaking by this march we have lost three horses and a dog in 12 months. Thank god we were there to talk to him and calm him.

He survived being stuck in a cattle grid all four legs out hunting a few years ago to go on and point again did not deserve to go like he did and he was a right old fart he always bit you when doing things with him in stable and on ocassion would give you a right chomp, but he was a lovely old boy and could hear a sweetie packet rustle from a mile away R.I.P. Monkey you were much loved and will be truly missed.

So sorry..sounds a lovely boy & aptly named. It's some consolation that you cld be with him at the end & make him a bit more comfortable. You sound like you are well overdue some good luck now!

Thanks for your kind words it is so frustrating when you can't do anything, I hope he is galloping around bucking and broncing liked he loved to do, wherever he is now.

Just another voice adding a sorry too. Sounds like you've had a really rough time of it. Your animals are clearly very lucky to have you as an owner, although I know all too well how hard it is to let them go.
