Horse is shod in front and barefoot behind, has been for 2 years. He had a mild bout of lami in spring which is why I am worried.
Today he came in (he's out all day, in at night) with one very hot hind foot. The others are fine. Not lame I add. A bit of a pulse, again only in this foot... He's on restricted grazing with a small haylage net and fast fibre at night. Had a poke about but couldn't see anything abnormal and no flinching. No reaction to coronary band pressure. I'm used to checking his feet but this is a fair bit hotter than usual.
Any ideas? 3 of the barefoot oldies are footy at the moment due to the mud. Could thrush cause this amount of heat? Mud fever? I worry about the shape of his foot as they are now very asymmetrical and the heels are very low. Though farrier is happy with them as he is sound - horse used to require trailers on back feet when he was shod.

Farrier is coming Friday so will what he thinks, but - any ideas?

Oh dear! Poor fella had an abcess a couple of months ago in another foot :( Thankfully farrier sorted it quick though he did have a couple of poorly days :( Again, I panicked a la lami!!! I think the lami earlier on in the year may have weakened his hoof structures and will still be growing out? But I don't really know! Fingers crossed he improves tomorrow!

Just keep an eye on it, it may be nothing at all :). Sometimes they get hot hooves for no apparent reason... standing funny, running around a bit more than usual. Fingers crossed, nothing will come of it :)

SO the next day he came in with 3 hot feet... then they ALL went cold again.

Farrier came on Tuesday (couldn't make it friday)- trimmed his front 'dodgy' foot first as his shoe had already come off - and found a bruise - and blood traces in the white line :(

I feel terrible as I had ridden horsey at the weekend in his easyboots and he was fine working on sand but sluggish when we walked out on the road to cool down - I thought it was just that he was too hot as he hasn't been clipped yet.

:( bad bad mummy! He should have chucked me off.

Farrier suspects it's the haylage at the new yard as he's permanently on restricted grazing and gets nought to eat but fast fibre... he isn't cresty or particularly fat, cushings and ems tests came back negative... so back to soaking hay! And trying to find more of the stuff ... :( He is coming back to fit pads to feet :( poor horse :(
