It's one thing after another now!!! I noticed he was resting one hind leg tonight and when I tried to dry it he kept snatching it away. There appears to be a lttle swelling and heat in the fetlock, should I call the vet now (he can look at his back at the same time) or wait for a few days and see?

Have you called to vet already for his back? If you have then it will do no harm for him to look at the leg at the same time.

Not to confuse matters but with regards to his back, have you tried a Mctimoney Therapsit? I have used them before and found them great. They look at muscular as well as the boney bits! Vets are brilliant but i would try a mctimoney first to try tosave yourself some money.

With regard to the leg. I would see how it is in the morning. She may have just banged it and sometimes it just needs time to sort itself out. I would hose it off tho for 20mins at a time. Is she lame on it?

how is his fetlock this morning?
i would ice wrap for 20 mins twice a day and stable bandage to get the heat and swelling down. rest her for a few days and check for changes. if she doesnt improve then get the vet out.
obviously if shes very lame or you think it could be tendon/ligament related then i'd speak to your vet as you would need to box rest and get a scan.

I won't see him until tonight. He does not appear to be lame, unless the odd hopping in trot is related to this and not something else, but he rests this leg a lot and there is a very small amount of swelling & tenderness. We are going to give him until the weekend resting and then see how he is.

Thanks, just come from the yard and today he was not resting it all, it didn't feel swollen and he didn't try to snatch it away when I brushed it. I hosed it anyway for 15/20 mins but it seems ok. Just the back issue to worry about now!

Hi, glad it seems better, will keep my fingers crossed for you. Know what you mean about worrying about them. I seem to spend my whole time worring about mine. Its like they are fine for ages then everything seems to go wrong!

Hi

This is where the hounds have been stuck in the mud for an extensive period of time.

I have come accross this before when a 3 stone Alsation mounted a West Highland White.

Hope all is okay soon.
