Hi all, just about to ride and noticed when picking out hooves that one of saf's hind hoofs feels warmer than the other. Can't see anything the matter with it and she doesn't mind me picking the other one out ie putting all weight on warm one. Any ideas?

It's probably the spring grass, keep watching out for any other symptoms of lami! could be other things like abscess ect but if she's weight baring okay on the foot I doubt it.

Cobsunshine - they get warm when the blood flow to the hoof increases :) when my pony was starting to go down with laminitis her feet were very hot

It is always better to be safe than sorry and assume that the foot is giving you the first warning signs of laminitis i.e. reduce food rations, and muzzle/stable if necessary. However, the feet can feel warmer after exercise, and if the horse has been standing in the sun. Although obviously it is unlikely in these situations that only 1 foot would be warm.

Odd really, she's never had laminitis before (she's 17) and is worked regularly. The only feed she's on it Baileys Lo Cal balancer and a bit of Flexijoint, though she is turned out 24/7. I turned her back out and lunged the other girl. When I got her back in the hoof felt normal. Rode her and she seemed fine. Strange girl, will keep an eye on it anyway.

The only other thing I can think is that we've recently moved and she's taken a dislike to the geldings next door and keeps kicking out at the fence which separates them. Just wondering whether she's bashed it on there...

Thanks for your replies :)

Just a thought, my mare has had one hoof hotter than the others on two separate occasions . On both occasions, she subsequently suffered from an abcess.
