The story is that yesterday I rode my mare for about half an hour in the field popping a few small jumps at the end very happily and certainly not lame or unwilling to move forward or softly. Farrier came and gave her a very small trim, more of a rasp really to take the snags off (she is barefoot) and I notice that she is shifting her weight slightly between her two front feet. Her coronary bands were quite hot but pulse was fine. Left her in starvation paddock for the day and she was fine, walking normally, not pottery, quite happy but am treating her as though she has mild laminitis because 1) the grass is shooting up with rain and sunny days and 2) she has put weight on. She hasnt however had lami before as far as know (15.1hh 12yr tb x mare)

Got her in this morning and one of the coronary bands now feels significantly hotter than yesterday but still happy to move, not lame, no reaction to pincer test in toe although still shifting her weight slightly. This obviously isnt right so am taking no risks, decided to cold hose for 10mins, have put frog supports on, given herbal anti inflam (for what is worth) and stabled her on shavings bed now with a small holed haynet with some well soaked hay as I really am suspecting lami (previous pony had it so have a little knowledge about what to do).

Am not sure what I am really posting for, I guess just to see if other people think that this sounds like lami (with more in one foot?) and if I have done all the right things so far? I have phoned the vets but because she isnt pottery, lame they have said box rest for 24hrs and cold hose and see if any changes and if not then they will come out but having been here before I suspect they will just treat as lami.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things, certainly won't do any harm. Abcess would have been my other thought, but it would be strange that she's totally sound.

You don't always get lameness with abcesses - I only knew one of mine had one last winter when it blew out of his coronary band.

To the OP - I think you do right to be cautious as there are a lot of lami cases around at the moment and yes you can get lami worse in one foot than the other. It may well be an abcess or she might have banged it whilst jumping but better safe than sorry. I'd carry on with what you are doing and see how it goes.

Yeah my guess would be abscess too.
They are normally lame with them but I can safely say that my boy had a abscess and wasnt lame. Was very strange to see.

But then again my boy never shows pain so he is a total nightmare :/

Just to be on the safe side - if it was my horse - I'd have it of the grass for a week at least.

Might, as suggested, simply be an abscess - but if there's a chance it's LGL then you're as well being prudent.

my mare was like this once, had heat in both her front coronary bands and one was hotter than the other, although she was slighly lame.
we had the farrier and she said it was nothing to do with her hooves, so we gave her a few days off work and she was back to normal, no heat or lameness. strange!
