It would stay warm for a while unless you caught it very early and kept the pony off any food/grass and the heat may dissapear. Also the heat can leave just from walking about on cooler surfaces (have seen ponies with excruciating lami but the owner said there was on heat in the feet (it had been snowing!!!))

Ponio would probably be lame though and also check and see if there is a digital pulse in the leg at all.

but no possibly not lami then

I dont know if the heat comes and goes with laminitis, but id be very careful and keep a close eye on him, and give plenty of exercise and cut hard feed right back, I did'nt have any warning signs with my old cob that i lost from laminitis, he went down with it so quickly.

A bit of horse science trivia....horses can heat individual legs/hooves if they are cold or wet. Which doesn't make it easy to check for heat related laminitis!! However a horse is more likely to get laminitis in two hooves than one,...one warm hoof, if it's consistantly warm, is more likely to be an abcess or infection. They don't make it simple for us do they?
