Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about this. My lad came in about 4 days ago quite lame in walk with heat coming from his lower pastern/coronet band but no real heat in hoof (very very minimal - if anything!). Anyway, I straight away suspected an abscess so got my farrier out the next morning, he pretty much disregarded it being an abscess because he wasn't lame enough (was a lot better coming out of his stable and not obviously lame in walk, but very sore in trot). He found a tiny bit of grit which he dug out but no spongyness or tenderness at all in the foot. Now, over the last couple of days, his walk is normal but still lame in trot, yet he still has heat radiating off the inner side of his pastern (no where near fetlock joint).
There are no cuts, no swelling, no bumps/lumps - nothing apart from heat! I am going to assess him again tonight and tomorrow morning, if there is no improvement then the vet will be called. However just out of curiosity - does anyone have any ideas what could have caused it? I would have thought that if he's twisted it in the mud or had a kick then there would at least be swelling?
Thanks
