Hi,

I was wondering if anyone uses these saddles or has any opinions on them as i'm thinking of getting a second hand one for my pony and wanted to know more about them.

Thanks,

Jude

Used to have one, an early Phoenix one so might be different now, hated it. Had the Italian leather which loads of people were raving about but it just felt thin and cheap to me, then the girth straps were overly thick and difficult to fasten up and kept marking, and weren't level so the holes on the 2 straps were in different places and you had to either have the front one tight or the back one tight, couldn't have them both done up the same tension. Wouldn't stay in place on the pony's back no matter what grippy pad or girth was used. Saddle shape/fit didn't suit the sized kids I'd got on it. Was told they kept a good value second hand but could only get a couple of hundred less than I wanted back for it when I managed to sell it on. Not a good experience!

I had a SBS saddle, the leather was beautiful and soft, it was very well made and incredibly comfortable to sit on............But as soon as my horse moved, so did the saddle, it didn't matter how tight the girth was, what girth I used or what pad/numnah I used.

A friend has a newer HM saddle and is very pleased with it.

I have had mine for several years and ride in it most days. I have the suber panel version. I love it. I have a rather rotund native. It has never slipped even when I mount from the ground (very rare indeed). Only thing I don't like is the dressage girthing system. My mare goes well in it.

Bought a HM GP Phoenix saddle about 4 years ago for a very round Fell pony, very comfortable to sit in, she was happy in it, e en after selling her I retained the saddle and use it on my horse, it is a very versatile saddle and will fit any shape of horse. I use it in conjunction with my treed saddle, would never sell as it be because as said earlier will fit any horse. I like the dressage girth straps, I have them put on my treed saddle - yes the girth straps are thick but does it really matter?
