Hello!

I've been searching high and low for a long schooling crop that is heavier in the handle and much thicker, but with no luck!

Every tack shop I've been to all have very light and thin crops. Anybody know of any heavier crops out there? I've looked at proper side saddle schooling crops but the ones I've seen are very expensive. Plus also my horse needs a schooling whip rather than a cane. I also had a look at the Spanish schooling brand today but although heavier they are still very thin.

If anyone rides side saddle, any advice please?

I don’t ride SS so might have the wrong idea but have you looked at Ebay for old style hunting canes? Sometimes they have some lovely long (ladies??) ones that go fairly cheaply. I also think there is someone that sells reproductions as well?

I just use a normal long dressage whip for side saddling. I know the kind that you mean though, I found a side saddle one at a antiques fair last month that was longer and a bit more thicker but it was £90! I may buy it if the dealer still has it when we go back tho.

Thanks for the replies! I'm just using a normal dressage whip at mo but with my horse being quite dead to the leg she's not seeing the whip as my right leg. It's very light so has no effect on her. I borrowed someone elses old heavier crop the other day and it really made a difference and she definately understood what I was asking of her. I've been told whips tend to much lighter these days to protect your wrist from damage. Once my mare gets going she is brilliant but it takes alot of work to get her moving her bum lol.

Thanks!!
