Yesterday my mare was breathing so heavily in her stable that she was almost snoring. She is 304 days. Should I be worried or is this normal for a mare in last few weeks as foal is taking up so much space?

Was she lieing down? If so, I wouldn’t worry

Was she sweaty? Are you able to take her temp?

Was she struggling to breathe? IE abdominal breathing, making a big effort? As above, did you take her temperature? How is she now?

Yes, making a big effort and sort of dozing. Better this morning. Not sweaty. Will take her temperature in a mo. Thanks for help.

No temperature and she hasn't done it again. I think she was just sleeping deeply! She's gone to the stud down the road for foaling now so very experienced manager will keep an eye on her breathing there.
