I really want to get to as many heavy horse shows around the UK this year and was hoping that the lovely HHO members might be able to make suggestions :D

Have you been on The Friendly Shire forum?

Burwarton Show has HH classes and there is the Trimpley Horse Festival which is every July just outside Kidderminster. Not really a competitive show, more a demonstration and located at the Holbeache Suffolk Punch stud....

Where are you cobmum? (I'm on my phone so can't see). Do you want ridden or in hand classes? Cheshire show is great but there are loads all over.
And just beware of the "friendly" shire forum, I think they got the name wrong...

Hi, You should get a subscription to Heavy Horse World magazine. It's published quarterly and covers shows across the country with heavy horse classes, among other informative articles. Their website is www.heavyhorseworld.co.uk. I see you are in Cheshire. Plenty of heavies in your neck of the woods.

Ditto the heavy horse mag, its great, I really need to re-subscribe to it!

Has any one got a link to the friendly shire forum please.

At the end of the year September time, there's one at Shoreham near Sevenoaks in Kent, until recently I used to have a stand there doing demos of Saddlery and Harness making, I think it's the first sunday in September, worth going to see some nicely turned out vehicles and horses.

The Working Horse trust in Eridge would be able to help you with further shows that are on.

Ahh-ha, so you're in Cheshire too. Excellent! There are loads to offer without travelling very far, as long as the heavies you want to see are Shires.
Cheshire and Nantwich are the biggies but loads of the smaller/slightly further shows do it too. Leek, Poynton, Ashbourne, etc all have Shire sections. Mobberly Shire horse society run a series of classes across the area so may be worth contacting for the programme. There was a ploughing match in Alsager last year but I think they're moving it to another location this year.
