Hi

I am struggling to find a decent heavyweight rug. My mare is a fine TB and really feels the cold, just wondered if anyone could recommend me some good turnouts for the dreaded Winter months ? pref combo.

Thanks

T

Premier equine all the way - I have a skinny malink and they keep him lovely and warm! I think they are the most heavyweight rugs around. Also keep an eye on their sales page for bargains!

I use mainly horseware rugs - fit my horse well and are sturdy so stand up to my horse's antics in the field.....they have a supreme heavyweight (black with yellow straps) which my horse lived in during the really cold winter we had this year with no need to add any more rugs underneath....I know they have changed their rugs this year so not sure what they are like now but I do like the quality of their rugs....

Another big thumbs up for Premier Equine. Their heavy weight is 450g and kept the horse in question lovely and toasty. They do them with full neck or removable necks. Loved them so much that this year the all my horses will be wearing PE rugs despite having always been a weatherbeeta or Mark Todd fan

i got a weatherbeeta orican last yr with detatchable neck its black and orange check and is just lovely! £65 roughly from equestrian clearance..x

Premier Equine all the way :D
I had a PE rug for my youngster that i got in 08, and the rug is still used on my TB i have now, and will be for a long time :) only has a tiny, tiny rip in it, and that was when he got it stuck on barbed wire fter he escaped, silly horsey!
They arnt all that expensive either.. My mum went on the sale page last year and got 2 new heavyweights for under £100 :)

Have to agree that the Supreme is brilliant. Not cheap, but so worth the money and last for years. I bought mine (ok OH bought it!) in 2003 and it's still going strong and will definately get me through another few more winters. As CA said, they don't need anything else underneath even in the coldest of winter days.

Rambo supremes all the way!!! Had a thin skinned warmblood that lived our ALL last winter 24/7 in a medium weight and it never moved.... Well worth the money.....

Try Protuff - http://www.protuff-horsewear.co.uk/protuff-turnout-rugs-15-c.asp

I bought the stable rug and was really impressed with the fit on my tb, and no rubs so I bought this TO - http://www.protuff-horsewear.co.uk/protuff-combo-mw-turnout-red-and-black-more-59-p.asp

then I bought the heavier one - http://www.protuff-horsewear.co.uk/...ed-neck-extra-deep-sale-2-weeks-only-65-p.asp

It is really deep and one of them (can't remember which) has a fully integrated tail flap so unlike normal flap that are just that, this is all filled in at the bum of the rug so no drafts

My tb w3as turned out during the day in all the snow for a few hours and he was never cold in it, gonna buy some more this winter for my other chap really impressed with them

Another vote for Pro-tuff.

Absolute bargain and very cosy and warm for my horsey - I have had the Premier Equines before too and like them but went for Pro-tuff due to bargain price for 450g polyfill.
