I've got a 23yr old medium/heavy weight cob who is going to live out 24/7 for the first time this winter. I always have her fully clipped as she gets very itchy with a full coat, poss want to get her a weatherbeeta orican combo rug but not sure if she'll get too hot in a 360g weight rug as thickest she's ever worn has been a 300g rug but she's never been out at night. ANYONE WITH COBS - HELP xx

I have a heavy cob x and when I first moved him to live out he was fully clipped and he spent the winter in a heavy weight mark todd. With an amigo duvet stable rug underneath as well as a fleece on real cold days.

This year though I am hoping not to clip him and only use a middle weight at most, but if I do clip it will only be my little version of a bib x hunter clip !!!!

I had used hoods but had to stop and take them off as he trashed them so quickly, so thought he can't want it on !!! much hapier without

My cob is fully clipped, but is stabled at night and most ot the winter last year was warm enough in a 200g Rambo wug plus, she did wear the HW one which is 370g on some very cold days/nights (I tend to leave my Turnout rugs on in the stable too). Along as they have access to forage of some sort, they can keep themselve warm eating.

My horse a heavy cob wears, 400g, colder days fleece and at the coldest point of winter a 250g under that. < guinness was clipped though. And lived out this year winter may be good or bad and if its bad am well armed with a stable now

Thanks for all of your help, oredered her a orican combo weatherbeeta from equestrian clearance (what a good website) as they have them on offer so she's all set for living out 24/7 now xx

Henry is fully clipped and at 17hh and half shire is a medium to heavy weight cob. He lives out as much as poss, only coming in at night when it's wet and cold. If dry he stays out.

Last winter he wore the rambo 400g rug with full neck and was toasty pretty much all the time! At night when he was in I'd have him in an under rug with full neck and then the masta stable rug on top for extra insultation.

As your mare is in her 20's, make sure her neck is covered to help with any old bones!! She ought to be fine with good hay and a nice toasty rug.
