As title really, am looking for heavyweight turnout rug with neck cover for Jan Feb when really cold can anyone recommend me a good one - my mare is very wide in the chest area?
I have a Fal Silver Interactive for my wimpy part Arab mare, it kept her incredibly warm and dry last winter. I'm not sure about the chest width issue though. They are not cheap but it still looks and feels as good as new.
Premier Equine 450gm. Can't rate it enough. I've got FAL's, Weatherbeetas, Rhino's, Rambo duo (git trashed it in a month & neck rug far too narrow even for 16hh WB) & use Amigos for milder weather.
My boy had it on last winter, he is clipped & can shelter in his stable but with constant access to the field. He was consistantly toasty in the PE in temps of down to -20. It has a great wide neck with the elastic around the face & lots of room round his high withers.
I am aware I am raving and before anyone say it no I've got nothing to do with PE!
I wouldn't recommend Rambos, amigos or rhinos as they probably wouldn't fit around chest. My idxwb has massive shoulders and chest and I find weatherbeeta, fal and shires fit him well!
I have a Weatherbeeta Orican Combo heavy and really like it. It fits well, doesnt move around and my lad is always nice an warm even during the horrific winters we've been having!
I bought a JHL full neck heavyweight rug last year and it was excellent. Not only the cheapest rug on sale, but a good fit, well fitting and really light to handle
