I am unable to erect a field shelter in Archies field so would like to plant some, ideally, fast growing trees or shrubs, evergreen, ideally, that will give him some shelter.

I have seen willow structures and you can plant and bend them to shape - does anyone know if this would be suitable? I could then plant in a three sided box shape or semi circle and give him a bit of a roof too. I know they are not evergreen but are fairly dense, I think, when grown.

Any help and suggestions would be welcomed.

Many thanksx

Evergreen things are, generally speaking, poisonous to horses, so you'd be best to avoid them!

Willow is really, really fast growing, and also dead easy to manage, in that if you prune it, and stick the cut bits in the ground, it will root and thicken everything up from the base. Willow is not poisonous too (in fact it has pain killing properties), so would be a good choice. I used twisted willow to make a screen in my garden so I could no longer see my chavvy neighbour's hell-hole of a 'garden' - grew really fast! I just took some cuttings from a friend's allotment and stuck them in the ground, easy as that. Took about 3 years, but they were over 7ft high when we moved!

slightly different but at my childrens school they planted an outdoor willow classroom- looks the same as an igloo! its grown really quickly and is obviosly fairly flexible, gives reasonable shelter from the sun/wing and light drizzle too- over time it will obviously becomedenser too.

so i would think willow would be a great idea
