After reading a couple of threads on here about riders weights and pony height it has got me thinking. I brought a cob x last year for me to drive and my children to ride when he is old enough and they are off their current tiddlers. I was then offered an unregistered new forest for a token payment as the people were over stocked. Both the ponies are 2 year olds, the cob x currently stands at around 12.2 at the withers and 13. at the bum, the new forest is about 13 at the withers and 13.2 at the bum, so my first question is what height do people think they will make? And if they make that height what weight would they comfortably carry? When they are backed in a couple of years my children will be 11 and 12 and neither are currently over weight,as I grew up riding 13-14hh ponies I assumed they would be ok but now I'm second guessing myself

It will depend more on the amount of bone the ponies have, than the height.

I ride a 14.2hh New Forest, who is a real traditional build. My OH has a 14.3hh New Forest mare who is fine, and who I would not chose to ride on a regular basis (I have ridden her in the past).

I am 6'1" tall and currently weight around 78 kilos full dressed (been cutting back on the dreaded Wine Gums..mmmmmmm).
