Height certificates

Hi all, I have a young cob who I would eventually like to show in ridden and working cob classes. I didn't have my previous cob measured, but I think it would be useful to have the youngster certificated as there may be the chance of doing larger shows with him. He is also quite a full up cob (he is rising 5) so I think I will need to have a certificate. I know that the measuring system has changed recently (no longer a AHC?) but wondered if someone could give me updated info on what I will need to do - are there still two measurements? Also which vets in Cornwall are able to measure (I think the nearest is Steve Otty in Penzance?). Thanks very much for your help!

having had 2 ponies measured since christmas, can tell you yes there are still 2 measures but alas you cannot have a life measure until your horse is 7 yrs, i dont know the rules for cobs, ( you may have to have an annual measure till then) if your horse is 7 you can have both measures within weeks of each other the cost has just gone up to £68 that includes the JMB and the vets fees, best to ask local people which vets they recommend in your area.

Penmellyn are JMB measurers. I think that Kenwyn & Nick Franklin are as well.
You will need at least one annual prior to having a full height certificate (formerly called 'life' height certificate) regardless of the age of the animal. As already stated you can't get the full certificate until the horse or pony is seven, so as your's is fiv you will need two annuals, one for this year & one for next. The maximum height for a cob is 155cm, although there are now the maxi cob classes for animals of cob type trhat exceed this height. If yours does go over read local unaffiliated schedules carefully......some just say open cob & don't stipulate a height limit!!
