I'm am a little bit stuck on what to do, I have two years left on ponies, the last time I measured my pony he stood as 14.3, my instructor told me he could fit in BSJA as a 148, I've been doing my research and some people have said they sometimes let them through and I'm guessing he would be a full up 148. Horse strides are too long for him and I have affiliated him as a pony but not gone to any shows yet so now I'm stuck on what to do, shall I take the risk and have him measured after £50 has been won? He has a lot of potential for BSJA but I'm just so stuck! Any advice please comment!

If he measures 14.3 in shoes then he should easily get in at 148cm when the shoes are off and he is measured properly, if he is not shod you can still get him to relax, keep his head down level with his withers when the stick is on him and they usually lose the best part of an inch when they get measured.
If you have 2 years left on ponies then jump him and see how it goes, when he needs to be measured make sure you practice loads so he is very relaxed and you may be surprised how small he is when measured officially.

We had a 148 with a LHC (Which I really had doubts we would get at the time!) With shoes and in a mood he probably measures 15.1ish. Without shoes and calm he went under the stick at 147.5cm. He competed affiliated with us until he got too close to being a JA (You can't compete JAs at Pony Club and he didn't really have the talent to go much further than he did. He now events) We were asked to produce the LHC occasionally but never re-measured. Nor did he stand out as particularly tall amongst the other 148s.

Practice transport and standing to be measured. Chose a practice which will leave you time to let him settle or even to lunge him and see how you go. He probably will come in under 148.
