height measuring

now im confused, today i used someones measuring stick to measure my 5 year old and it came up as 15hh but someone told me to mark on a wall were his withers are and measure him this way using tape measure and presuming nothings changed ie 4" is one hand he came up as 63" which is 15.3hh so if you use a stick do you read it above the arm or below

No idea but just bumping cos I'm interested to know. 3 inches seems like a big difference! I only use a tape and that's the worst way!

When I use the stick I measure below the arm.

Just a thought, when you marked on the wallk could you have done it wonky which made it higher?

Failing that measure how tall you are in hands and measure him that way, I think I'm 16hh
