hi, have asked this a few days ago, butstill dont know the answer yet, he is standing at 14.2hhs and i middle of growth so prob be 14.3 in week or so. but he is only a yearling, what do you think he will finish. you see his dam is 15.1hhs and his sire is 16.2hhs but all his sires foals are finishing near 17hhs, he has very long legs.

thanks, i think maybe 15.3hh-16hhs but legs so long could make 16.1-2hhs.
just wondering in gerneal what is the method if you see a yearling to know what it will finish roughly.

Find a friend. Take a piece of string, stretch from fetlock to elbow (top of the leg). Turn it upside down so the string goes from elbow to somewhere above his withers. This is how big he'll be.

Apparently its very accurate! My little one measures at 146 at the moment and will become (according to that string thing) 164. Shes currently about 14months old.

thats class to know, going to head out and do it now, will let you know how i get on, thanks again. have a few more things todo when out but will update you later. :)

ah thanks, he's a wee pet, very very good, eagar to please all the time, which is great for a colt.

well i done the test, came out at 15.3hhs.
thanks i was thinking 15.3-16hss. but as sire is 16.2hhs and all sire's foals is making near 17hhs was just courious was there a method. thanks for test tip.
:)

As a rough guide whatever they are at 1 add another hand up to 2 then anything up to another hand until maturity. Seems to be always a very close guide. My yearling, well 15 months is about 13.1, i'm expecting to see her close to 14hh at 2 and then probably make 14.2 possibly 15hh. So 15.3- 16.2 would be a safe bet for your boy.

not sure about his height but what a good looking lad, fab markings as well....mine was 13.3 at 15 months and ended at 16 hands...have lots of fun with him:D:D:D
