Hi all,

Havn't ventured in here before, I own/am owned by a gorgeous parson russell called Remy. He's about a year and 3/4's now and just the bestest doggy I could ever ask for. :D

Now for the rant, im currently sitting in my room with Rems who is whining/crying/yelping his little wee head off. I live on a friends farm, which is great because I can see my two horses from my bedroom. As well as my two horses there is my friends horse and another horse owned by this weird lady. Said weird lady has two dogs, both bitches and only one of them has been 'done'. When she came down the yard yesterday to do her horse, Remy shot off in her direction which is very unlike him. As I walk over to fetch him back she cheerfully anounces that her dog, Lottie is in season. ******ing brilliant....and now i've now got a sexually frustrated, love sick terrier. He's not eating all that much and is generally a bit off. Poor wee man.

Now for the question, i've always believed that it's the bitch's owners responsibility to avoid entire dogs if they are in season, afterall it only lasts roughly a week once a year (though I know some dogs have two seasons). Weird lady says to me, it might be best to shut Remy away whilst Lottie is in season. Now this really pissed me off, I live here and I pay rent. So I ask you all knowing dog people: should weird lady avoid bringing her in season bitch down the yard until she is out of season and take her for a walk somewhere else, or should I lock my dog away whilst she is here which is usually 3-5 hours a day?

Many thanks xxx

Castrate your dog. Both dogs are entire so why on earth should the bitch owner have to curtail her life due to your dog? Your dog obviously doesn't cope well with being entire (i.e stresses around in season bitches) so why keep him so? close your dog away while she's there, or ask her's to keep her in the stable.

Bit of both really although I understand it must be frustrating.

You could save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run by having him neutered.

I heard of a dog who chewed through two doors to get to a bitch in heat, another who got out of a pen, scaled a fence, walked over a roof, did the deed and went back to his own run :o so locking him up may not even work either if he is that keen!

Thanks for the replys.

I was kind of expecting the neuter your dog reponse! Thing is (prepares to be jumped on) I would like to keep him entire as providing he passes neccessary health checks, a friend of mine would like to use him to cover her parson bitch. Though not just yet I might add. I understand that there are enough dogs looking for homes as it is but both dogs have wonderful temprements and are a good representation of the breed. I would like a puppy myself and have plenty of family/friends who have also expressed a lot of intrest. I have had a lot of rescue dogs over the years and they have been wonderful but I think it would be nice to carry on the line. And yes if family/friends could no longer keep pups they would certainly be comming back here to live out their days.

Just wondering, what do you do if your bitch comes in to season when you want to take it to a dog show? Are all the dogs expected to behave or does the one bitch take the day off and go to a party at a later date?

Then I'm afraid you have to suck it up, pardon the expression.

I personally would not take a bitch in heat to a dog show or working trial (and it is why a lot of triallers prefer to own dogs!!!)
I was at a world championship event last week with 34 teams and hundreds of dogs competing, there were two females in heat, one from Russia and one from Canada and they were made to go at the very last before the closing ceremony so as not to put off the other dogs, which is par for the course in trialling.

I think it is a bit chavvy to take a bitch to a breed show, sorry :o smacks of winning at all costs, a bloke brought one to a show I went to in Feb, it was snowing and there was blood everywhere, yeuch!!!

Lol in all fairness to him he doesn't chew/scratch at the doors to get out. He's now just sitting by the door looking very sorry for himself with the occasional whine/sigh.

I was just looking at your photos of the gsd show. They're fantatic. Then again i've got a friend up the road with working shepards so prehaps i'm a bit biased! :p

Cheers!

Just a matter of keeping him occupied then! One of the hazards of keeping dogs of either sex entire, just have to watch them like hawks.
Good luck with his health tests.

I wouldn't personally as wouldn't want to risk it but it is entirely unfair of one entire dog owner to expect other entire dog owners to keep their dogs locked up.
TBH covering your friends bitch because you both have the same breed and are friends smacks of irresponsible breeding to me. But there you go.
You'r just going to have to come to an arrangement.

I can see where your comming from, but both dogs are KC registered, my friend's bitch is from her mum's parson, who was from her brother's parson. Basically they would like to keep the line going, her bitch passed health checks and is of wonderful temprement, like all the other dogs from their line. We have already ensured that there will be homes for any puppies, all of which are close friends or family. We have the facilities to keep all puppies/dogs if it all went pear-shaped!

Even if the OP got her dog cut it wouldn't stop him having the urge anyway. My lab has been done for 6 yrs now and he still gets excited and tries to mount a smelly bitch - (men do too!! :o )

It is very frowed upon to bring a bitch in season out to any shoot - totally unfair to the other dogs. In fact it upsets them even if there is a bitch who lives with a bitch in season as she will carry the smell.

I too think its the bitch's owners responsibility to keep the dog secure but then again those who allow their entire dogs to roam miles and sit howling outside someone's house need a good talking to too!!

Glad i'im not the only one who feels that way. Afterall it is only for one week, i'm not asking her to never bring her dog down again!

Yes another pet hate of mine is irresponsible owners who let their entire dogs roam. I've always said that if my dog starting looking for bitches in heat then I would have him cut, but I can hardly blame him when one gets brought to his home and stands there with her bum in his face; slut!:p
