Hello,
I used to be on here often, would enjoy reading everyones posts, and recieving help and advice when I asked for it, everyone on the whole was really supportive.
However, I have not been on here for ten months, have not felt I have been able to tell all of you what happened. I had a beautiful hanovarian warmblood gelding, I had him for five years. Ten months ago on the 8th of May I had to have him put to sleep, after very sudden colic. I was with him when he died. I don't think I will ever get over it, he was my very best friend, I miss him so very much. I know some people post their loss straight away, but it has taken me this long to do it.
I am still riding my friends horses, and hope to be buying one with a friend soon. Feeling a bit more ready now. I have not touched his tack or rugs since he died, can't face it...does it get easier?

Its nice to be back guys.

It's different for every person but yes it does get easier. I have lost 2 horses and last Friday a very special dog. It is devastating and you cannot see the end of your misery but it is there.
I am the kind of person who needs another horse or dog or cat or whatever. They are my life and I could not be without them, It is not a case of replacing the one you have lost but moving on and giving a home to another.
Hope it all works out for you.

Well like any loss, you never truly get over it, rather you learn to live with it. I still grieve for a beloved mare who I shared my life with for 25 years and also every October 17th I shed tears for my first pony who died on that day. Everybody is different and it will take as long as it takes to get over the loss to a point where you feel you can move on a little.

As the previous poster said, don't think of another horse as a replacement, you are clearly a very loving owner so think how lucky your new horse will be to have you and in his or her own way they will become as special and unique as your beloved boy was.

Its great you are riding again and as for your boy's tack - that is only practicals and it is only equipment that your new horse will be grateful for. So saying my own saddle is always known as Kiley's saddle and her stable is still known as Kiley's stable by everyone who knows us.

Enjoy your new horse search and welcome back. I was off the forum for a couple of years due to no broadband or even dial up. Now finally I have a half decent service, it is good to be back. I have found everyone welcoming and kind.
