Hello! I just registered and would like to say hello to you all! I have much appreciated and enjoyed all the advice and comments I have read when I was not registered. I have one horse, Molly, who I've had for almost five years. She is a sweetheart, but when I got her she was a nuthead, unbeknownst to me. She broke my ribs and pulled three muscles in my neck so I decided it might be a good idea to retrain her :) We've been working really hard and she is just a dear now. I am 17 and from the US (I know this is a UK forum but I've been hooked!) so excuse me if I don't quite understand some of your expressions! ;)

I have a bit of a problem with my horse, Molly, and was wondering if anyone could suggest what is wrong. She has been intermittently lame for three days now and today her front right hoof became hot. Her hoof is hotter up top near the coronet band than down near the ground. Does anyone know what this might be? Her sole is not especially hot.

Thank you!

get the farrier, blacksmith to get some hoof testers on the foot. is the horse lame turning corners or does it rool through the hoof - this could be an indicator of pedal bone movement.

Hello :)

It could be any number of things that have caused the heated coronet band. If the horse has been lame on and off for the past few days then she could have bumped her leg and the trauma is dissipating down the leg. If this happened then she could get a mild bout of coronitis. She could have developed an abscess or bruised her sole. Could be anything really. Does she have an elevated digital pulse? Personally I'd get the farrier out to take a quick look and see if he can find anything.
