Hi everyone,

Just saying hello and happy 2017 hope you all had a good Christmas. I went for a hack sometime ago and the horse wasn't very forward and was sluggishly moving, couldn't get anything other than walk..... I put on my leg and kicked but nothing ... do you all have any tips of what I can do to encourage him on?

Try lunging him a bit first to loosen him up.

He was loose as he was ridden in the school before, just when out didn't have any go?

Is there anything physically wrong or just lack of energy

Nothing wrong, just seems to have no go when out on a hack

Hi NF, and a happy new year to you too. What is he? and whats his normal 'work' routine? You say 'sometime ago', is he ridden regularly? Im a newbie too, so nice to meet you.

He is a cob type, and risen 5 times weekly e.g. 30 - 45 mins schooling or hacks

Hi I tend to find cobs do have less go on hacks, for me I just give lots of gentle encouragement.

Do you have any top tips?

Yes, feed her after you have ridden. I find always has a lot less go after she has been fed even though I do wait an hour before riding.
